For now, I LOVE this ink! It's a fabulous yellow color with great shading. I've always wanted a yellow ink, and for now, this is it. Again though, I have 5 +- other yellows I need to try before I get a full bottle... :)
Diamine Sunshine really looks like the sun. It's a bright yellow with orange undertones, and is actually not to hard to read. I agree, for a 15 page letter it might be a bad choice, but for quick notes, special cards, and doodling for fun - it's awesome!

Ink Review: Dimaine Sunshine Yellow
Pen and nib: TWSBI Diamond 540 - B nib
Color: The sunshine! It's a really gorgeous yellow/orange with great shading.
Dry time: 15 - 20 seconds. Do note: The TWSBI B nibs are known to be extremely wet writers. I'll test this ink in another pen later and retry the dry-time...
Smear when dry: NO
Lubrication: Low/medium. This ink is very watery, which is not a bad thing to me. A watery ink means it will be easier to clean out during flushing.
Shading: Pretty good! Not massive amounts, but enough to add a lovely aspect to the ink.
Feathering: None, at least on any decent paper.
Bleedthrough: None at all! This ink seems very well-behaved in this respect.
Notes: I really love this ink! It's pretty well-behaved, and the color is fabulous! I love the shading too. Overall this ink really does look like the sunshine.I would highly recommend this ink to anyone who likes yellows and oranges!

I believe the following pictures are pretty accurate to the color of this ink. I will say this: it looks even better in person. :)
Overall I really like this ink. I am currently keeping it in my TWSBI, since the pen is a demonstrator. This ink is very pretty in whatever it is contained in! I forgot to mention - This ink would work pretty decently as a highlighter ink. It's a little bit "shaded", and I would prefer a more straight up yellow for highlighting. But, it would work if you wanted it too. In short - I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a good yellow with shading.

I hope one of those yellows is Apache Sunset. It actually shades back and forth between yellow and orange! It should really be used with a flex nib to get the most stunning performance out of this ink. I don't believe there's anything out there (even in a different color) that puts on quite a show as this one does.
ReplyDeleteI have a sample of the Private Reserve Buttercup, which I really like (and reminds me somewhat of the Diamine Sunshine). Unfortunately, I cannot think of enough uses for it to purchase a full bottle and keep a pen inked with it.
ReplyDeleteLike Karen, I have a bottle of Noodler's Apache Sunset and think it is a wonderfully shading ink. To me though, it leans more towards orange than yellow.
I can't remember if I got Apache Sunset or not. If I didn't, I'll have to grab a sample later on. Sounds really nice from the way you describe it!
